Wyoming council approves I-3 industrial rezoning for parcels on 60th and Clyde Park after heated public comment

The Wyoming City Council voted 4-2 on Jan. 6 to adopt Ordinance 14-24, rezoning 901 and 855 60th Street SW and 5957, 5977 and 5985 Clyde Park Avenue SW from residential to I-3 Restricted Industrial.

The decision followed more than an hour of public comment from neighborhood residents who said the change would harm a long-standing single-family neighborhood, increase truck traffic and noise, and reduce private property values. The planning commission had recommended denial of the rezoning request in September.

Why it matters: The parcels sit at the west end of the city where residents say industrial uses already have encroached. Supporters of the rezoning and the developer argue the property aligns with long-range planning for industrial land and can help meet local demand for industrial space.
