Board approves consent agenda including new ethics code and an employment agreement; votes 8–0

The Beacon City School District Board of Education approved its consent agenda, covering agenda items 11.01 through 15.07, in a single motion during the Jan. 27 meeting. The board vote passed 8–0.

Board President Dr. Lundahl (addressed during the meeting) asked for a motion to approve items 11.01 through 15.07. A motion was made and the motion was seconded “by Kristen,” after which the board voted “Aye,” and the chair announced the motion “Passes 8 to 0.” The consent agenda included two items discussed earlier in the meeting’s agenda changes: 11.08, the new board code of ethics (with attorney-recommended edits), and 15.07, an employment agreement with Karen Pagano.

Separately earlier in the meeting, the board voted to adjourn to executive session “to discuss the employment history of a particular individual.” The board moved into executive session and later reconvened; the executive-session motion was moved, seconded by Chris, and carried. No formal action or outcome from the executive session about the specific individual was introduced in public after the session other than returning to open session and proceeding with the consent agenda vote.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn the public session that the board approved, again recorded as passing 8–0.

The board did not read the full text of the code of ethics or the employment agreement aloud in the public session during this portion of the meeting; the agenda noted that the code of ethics included changes recommended by the district attorney and that item 15.07 was the employment agreement with Karen Pagano. The consent vote bundled multiple routine items into one motion and did not generate separate recorded roll-call votes for each individual agenda item in the public transcript.
