At a Jan. 25 Cannon County Schools workshop, school leadership described staffing requests tied to a campus that houses both an elementary and a middle school in the same building.
A school staff member who identified herself as part of the school leadership said the leadership team sketched a proposed schedule with 90-minute blocks for math and ELA and will request one additional teacher to implement the plan. "I am probably going to ask for 1 teacher," the school leader said. "We think we can get by with 1 teacher."
The same speaker and the district presenter discussed making a part-time assistant principal full time, adding another part-time librarian and an additional educational assistant (EA). The district presenter cautioned that adding staff to one school can affect the federal comparability report and Title funding; "you have to be careful," the presenter warned, referencing enrollment and equity requirements.
Enrollment figures discussed for the campus ranged from about 220 to 225 students. The school leader said class averages would move from about 24 to 28 if staffing is not increased.
No vote or formal action was taken; staff asked principals to submit prioritized lists to the district for inclusion in the budget planning process.
