Council: decision on pool and wellness center likely within months; outdoor pool possible option

Beaver City council members and staff said the city is approaching a business-planning phase for a proposed wellness center, and that decisions about the existing municipal pool will be needed within months.
Staff said the wellness center planning will show construction costs, staffing needs and operating scenarios. "I would say... probably between now and six months from now would be my guess," a council member said when asked about timing for firm decisions.
Council members said one likely option under consideration is converting the current indoor pool to an outdoor facility or otherwise changing the pool's operating model depending on the wellness center's final design and timetable. "We may consider turning it into an outdoor pool," a council member said, noting programs such as swim lessons and swim teams could still operate in summer months.
No final decision was made at the workshop. Staff said they will continue planning and will return with more detailed cost and operational information for council review so a near-term decision about the current pool's future can be made once wellness-center costs and timelines are clearer.
