Perryton ISD reports turf installation and classroom renovations; accepts resignation, names interim coverage

The Perryton Independent School District superintendent reported ongoing facilities work, including turf installation and classroom renovations, and informed the board that the district accepted a recent staff resignation and arranged interim coverage.

The superintendent said crews have begun laying turf and that installers expect two to three weeks of work before the field will be ready for soccer use. He described demolition work underway at the high school’s vocational ("B") hall and said renovations will continue through adjacent halls, including what was described as "C Hall." The superintendent said classroom updates will follow the same pattern as recently completed classrooms on the Far East side.

On personnel, the superintendent announced the district received and accepted the resignation of Christina Gaspar since the last meeting and that Richard North is serving as a substitute principal managing operations until the district identifies a permanent placement.

Maintenance staff reported ongoing roof leaks at Williams and junior high buildings and described the typical repair focus on A-frame wrapping areas. Cafeteria staff described an incident in which an old theater gas line that served a kitchen area was struck; because that line’s location differed from expectations, staff said they moved quickly to feed students by using alternate equipment, borrowing a microwave and coordinating with other sites so students were served without interruption. Maintenance said the old theater line was found at roughly 33–35 feet from the expected location and confirmed it had been in use historically to serve the building kitchen area.

The superintendent also said he has a short construction video he intends to post publicly when it is delivered to district staff.
