Olympia advances regional 'Energize Thurston' heat‑pump program; launch planned for March

Olympia — Council members on Jan. 14 discussed a proposed interlocal agreement to expand the city’s building‑decarbonization program countywide as “Energize Thurston,” and pulled the related consent item for discussion.
Dominic Jones, the city’s building decarbonization program manager, told the council Energize Thurston will offer discounted and subsidized installations of ducted and ductless heat pumps for heating and cooling as well as heat pump water heaters across Thurston County. “We hope to launch the program this March, and information is available at energizethurston.org,” Jones said.
Council members asked about outreach and community workshops. Jones said a workshop series and community events are being scheduled and that staff are still identifying dates.
Council member Madrone noted the program regionalizes Energize Olympia and thanked staff and community partners for their work. The council did not complete a final vote on the interlocal agreement during the meeting; the item had been pulled from the consent calendar for discussion and staff provided program details and a public website.
Dominic Jones and Dr. Pamela Braff were named in council remarks as program contributors. Staff said more details on subsidies and outreach will be posted on energizethurston.org in the weeks before launch.
