The Town of Wayne board appointed Pamela Easton interim town treasurer at a special meeting on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. The appointment is effective when Easton provides the surety bond required by state statute and is governed by the terms of an interim town treasury agreement that the board said will serve as her written appointment.
Board members discussed the timing and paperwork for the bond. A staff member said, “All she needs to do is fill out the form, and once she sends it in, she will be on it. So it's about a day turner,” referring to bond paperwork provided by MMA. The board said staff will send Easton the interim employment agreement after the bond is in place.
The board noted that deputies are appointed in writing by the treasurer. The board said the treasurer, once sworn in, is expected to appoint Bryce as deputy treasurer in writing. Staff said Easton had “penciled in” a start date on a third Thursday, which the board said staff will confirm and communicate once the bond and agreement are complete. The board also said the treasurer will take the oath in front of the town clerk when the appointment becomes effective.
Attendance at the special meeting was reported as all members present except Roy Earl and Marion Butak, who were absent. After discussion, the board called for the question; a staff member said, “No. I don't have a negative,” indicating no opposition on the record. The meeting record does not include a roll-call tally by individual board member name.
Next steps listed by staff were: receipt of Easton's completed bond form, sending the interim employment agreement, confirming a start date, and a formal written deputy appointment by the treasurer. No ordinance, budget appropriation, or other legally named statute was cited by number during the discussion.
