Town Council approves permits for British Motorcars event with conditions on alcohol service

The Town of Bristol Town Council on Feb. 5 approved permits for the British Motorcars in Bristol event set for June 6–7 at Independence Park, authorizing a mobile food event, a Friday street‑party entertainment license and a one‑day alcohol permit contingent on departmental recommendations and compliance with town ordinances.
The event organizer, Nick Panello of 76 Kinswood Road, told the council the British Motorcars of New England Club will lead a parade through town, stage a car show at Independence Park and draw several hundred to as many as a thousand visitors over the weekend. Panello said the club supports veterans with an earlier stop and has promoted the event across New England.
Councilors combined the related permit requests and then voted to approve each item. Council members emphasized public‑safety coordination and vendor oversight. “They participate very closely with the Bristol Police Department,” the police chief told the council, adding the event has worked “seamlessly” in prior years.
The council also discussed beverage options. Councilor Teixeira asked whether there would be nonalcoholic selections; Panello said vendors planned to offer water, soft drinks and nonalcoholic beers. Panello said the vendor Vigilant Brewery will handle alcohol sales for the event.
Councilors required that the permits comply with town ordinances and any recommendations from police and other departments before final permitting. The motion to approve the bundled permits passed by voice vote with no opposition recorded.
The approvals cover: (1) a mobile food establishment event permit for June 6–7; (2) a one‑day dancing and entertainment license for a Friday night street party at Independence Park; and (3) authorization to sell alcohol on June 6 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., subject to the town’s licensing requirements and departmental recommendations. Organizers and police agreed to coordinate on staffing and public‑safety details in the run‑up to the event.
The council did not set any new conditions on the event’s parade route or participant numbers during the Feb. 5 meeting; those operational details will be finalized through the standard departmental review process.
