Three newly elected members of the Saline Area Schools Board of Education were sworn in and the board elected officers during an organizational meeting on Jan. 14, 2025.
The ceremony began with Judge Anna Freshour administering the oath of office to newly elected trustees Darcy Berwick, Jennifer Stebben, Brad Garvey and Jason Tizard (names and spellings as recorded in the meeting transcript). Each recited the oath affirming support for the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Michigan and pledging to “faithfully uphold the duties of the office of member of the board of education of Saline Area Schools.”
After the oath, the board moved to officer elections. Nominations opened for board president; Trustee Michael McVeigh was nominated and, following a roll-call-style tally of ballots, won the presidency by reported count of 5 to 2. Jennifer Stebben was chosen vice president by acclamation. The board elected Darcy Berwick secretary after a ballot count that produced four votes for Berwick. The board re-elected Brad Gerby as treasurer by a reported 5-to-? vote (board announced Gerby received five votes and declared him reelected treasurer).
Board members emphasized the procedural nature of the organizational meeting and transparency of the voting process; ballots were read aloud during the election. The board then adjourned the organizational portion of the meeting and opened the regular session.
The newly elected officers will assume the duties associated with their posts for the board year; no additional duties or changes were announced at the meeting.
The transcript records the oaths, nominations, ballots and final tallies as part of the organizational agenda.
