The representative also said it is essential to adhere to international law and to “avoid any form of ethnic cleansing,” and called for reaffirmation of a two-state solution as “the only sustainable solution for Middle East stability.” The speaker cited concerns about escalating violence in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and called for an end to violations by settlers and others.
“As affirmed by the International Court of Justice, Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territory must end,” the speaker said, and added that accountability and respect for international law are necessary. The representative urged support for a unified Palestinian governance structure to enable recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.
The remarks combined calls for immediate humanitarian measures — rapid, safe and sustained access and donor support — with longer-term political objectives, including durable, irreversible progress toward a viable sovereign Palestinian state living side by side in peace and security with Israel.
