The Aransas Pass City Council on Feb. 3 approved several action items by voice vote, including an order to hold a general election on May 3, 2025; authorization to issue a request for proposals for an Independence Day fireworks display on July 5, 2025; renewal of the Aransas Pass Little League facility lease for March 4, 2025–March 3, 2026; a no-cost, 180-day contract extension for the Maddox stormwater pump station; and acceptance of a donated Huey airframe to be designated as a public memorial at VFW Post 2932.
Election order: Staff told council the city is ordering the May 3, 2025 general election to elect a mayor and councilmembers for places 1 and 3 and to submit proposed city charter amendments to voters. Staff noted the city spent $22,652 on last year’s election and that, if the school district elects to hold races, a joint election agreement with the county’s election administrator could reduce the city’s share of cost by about half. A councilmember moved to approve the election order and the motion passed by voice vote ("Aye").
Fireworks RFP: Staff recommended returning the fireworks show to Community Park and launching over the softball fields behind the fields (not on the fields). Council authorized issuance of a request for proposals and selected July 5, 2025 as the event date. A councilmember moved and another seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
Little League lease: Council approved renewal of the facility lease with the Aransas Pass Little League covering March 4, 2025–March 3, 2026. Staff said the little league board had secured pest-control sponsorships and that the organization would continue as the leaseholder. The motion to approve carried by voice vote.
Maddox pump station change order: The council approved Change Order No. 1 with Associated Construction Partners to extend the contractor’s time by 180 calendar days at no additional cost. Staff explained lead times for materials and project adjustments on the city side — and theft of a louver system that had to be reordered — as reasons for the extension. Staff also confirmed repairs such as sealing an outlet pipe would be completed; the motion carried by voice vote.
Huey airframe donation: After an executive session, council reconvened and approved a motion to accept a donation of a Huey airframe from the Defense Logistics Agency and the Colorado National Guard to be designated as a historical public memorial on property at VFW Post 2932, 620 W. Wheeler Ave. The motion carried by voice vote.
Most motions in the meeting were approved by voice vote; no roll-call tallies were given in the transcript.
