Ada County commissioners adopt Meridian plan updates for area of city impact

Ada County commissioners voted Jan. 15 to approve application 202402138 (CPA/ZOA), adopting updates to the Meridian comprehensive plan within Meridian’s area of city impact and making a related text amendment to Title IX of the Ada County Code.

The county’s Development Services planner, Stacy DuPree, told commissioners the update would amend the 2019 Meridian comprehensive plan "to more accurately reflect the current conditions and goals" in the Meridian area of city impact and to align Ada County’s regulations with Meridian’s recent planning actions. DuPree said Meridian in March 2024 adopted revisions to its mixed-use plan sections and noted that Meridian had previously adopted the Field Subarea Plan for northwest Meridian in December 2021.

DuPree said staff received two written comments overall and no objections to the application, and she recommended approval. After closing the public hearing, a commissioner moved to approve the application based on the staff findings, the city’s presentation and the statutory criteria. The motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote with no recorded no votes.

The amendment will bring Ada County’s ordinance language into alignment with the City of Meridian’s updated plan language for the area of city impact, aligning county and city policies where those areas overlap. Commissioners’ approval authorizes county staff to record the ordinance amendment and add the presentation as an exhibit to the official record.

The action does not change property zoning on individual parcels; it updates the county’s adoption of Meridian’s updated plan content for the area of city impact and a zoning-ordinance text amendment to Title IX as specified in the staff report. The staff presentation and supporting materials were entered into the record as an exhibit.
