Resident asks Brandon council to lead paving of East Redwood and North Chestnut before new Berkman Elementary opens

During the visitors portion of the meeting, Scott Doublede of 2816 East Augusta Circle asked the council to convene a group of stakeholders to plan paving for East Redwood Boulevard and North Chestnut Boulevard so the two roads meet and provide a second paved access to the east side of Brandon.
"What we're respectfully asking for the city of Brandon to participate and potentially lead a discussion that results in getting East Redwood Boulevard and North Chestnut Boulevard paved to where they meet each other," Doublede said. He said his grandchildren will attend the new Berkman Elementary School when it opens and that a second paved access is a necessity for overall traffic flow and school bus routing.
Doublede said he had spoken with Mayor Buck, members of the council, Tom Brown of Brandon Township, Dean Karski of the Minnehaha County Board and Jared Larson of Brandon Valley Schools, and that those parties indicated willingness to meet. He said he had researched options and estimated costs to pave the roughly 0.8‑mile corridor and noted that annexation of the corridor could be an alternative.
Mayor Buck replied that staff would meet with Doublede to discuss options. No formal council action was taken during the meeting; the request was recorded as public comment.
