Resident reports vehicle damage from potholes near school; council discusses road shoulder repairs

A resident reported to the Fielding Town Council that her mother had driven over potholes near the school and that two tires and two rims on her car were damaged as a result.

The resident described the location as the shoulder of Main Street West near First West and Porterville Elementary School, saying a bus’s movement pushed the vehicle into the shoulder. “She says she got pushed over by a bus, and it's ruined 2 tires and 2 rims,” the resident told the council.

Council members inspected the description and discussed where the damaged area is located — at the corner near First West and the school — and noted multiple other problem turning locations on Main Street. They discussed previous patching efforts and that street maintenance has declined over decades as city costs rose while property tax revenue remained effectively flat.

The council did not take a formal vote on a repair at the meeting. The town’s earlier presentation on property tax revenue illustrating the town’s limited stable revenue was discussed in the same meeting; council members noted the town’s constrained budget for street repairs and that a plan for long‑term revenue would be necessary to sustain regular maintenance.

Council members asked staff to follow up on the exact location, obtain repair cost estimates and add the problem to the maintenance list for scheduling when funds and crews are available.
