Board updates on high-school construction, approves FFA alumni MOU for farm irrigation

The River Falls Board of Education received a facilities update Feb. 17 and approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the River Falls FFA Alumni Association to allow alumni-funded water infrastructure at the school farm.
Finance and facilities committee members said Krause Anderson has finalized construction contracts and a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) has been signed, shifting cost-overrun risk to the contractor for the covered scope. Work at the high school is underway, including installation of trailers and initial earth-moving for a multipurpose-room project.
The board also heard that summer programming and facility use plans are being coordinated to accommodate construction. District athletic speed-and-strength summer programming will use facilities at UW–River Falls for part of the summer, officials said.
The board voted to approve an MOU allowing the FFA Alumni Association to connect a seasonal watering system at the district-owned school farm, with alumni paying for installation and ongoing water costs. The MOU was presented as an annual agreement and the board approved it after committee review.
Board members praised the district’s bus drivers in recognition of National School Bus Driver Appreciation Week and heard a Kids’ Club update describing summer plans, a planned fee increase and anticipated shifts in space usage and field trips while construction is underway.
District staff said the construction schedule and facility-use plans are continuing to evolve and that administration will coordinate stakeholders as work progresses.
