School committee approves two policies for first reading on fundraising and retention of application materials

The Auburn School Committee on Feb. 5 approved first readings of two administrative policies: AUBJJE (Student Fundraising Activities) and AUBGBJC (Retention of Application Materials).
Committee members moved the policies forward as first readings during the meeting. On Policy AUBJJE, members said the revision expands the policy's language to cover crowdfunding platforms beyond a single named service. "We just added the words crowdfunding platforms because I think it had just said... previously it just said GoFundMe," a committee member explained during discussion. Committee members also mentioned adding "Snap" as an example during the update discussion.
On Policy AUBGBJC, members said the retention period for application materials was extended to three years to create greater record-keeping consistency and alignment with the Maine School Administrative (MSA) policy guidance referenced in subcommittee notes.
Both motions were approved by voice vote as first readings. No roll-call tallies were given on the record; the chair announced, "Motion carries," after each first-reading vote.
These votes advance the policies to subsequent review; final adoption will follow the committee's policy process unless members move otherwise.
