Kodiak senior center reports more than 11,000 meals and 9,300 rides in six-month period

Bill Oliver, president of Senior Citizen of Kodiak Inc., reported to the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly on Feb. 6 on the organization’s activities for the six-month period ending June 30, 2025.

Why it matters: The senior center provides meals, transportation and adult day care services used by older residents; the assembly provides financial support and monitors use of funds.

Key figures and services: Oliver said the organization provided 11,122 meals (in-house, home-delivered and curbside pickup), with home-delivered meals available seven days per week. The center recorded 9,320 rides through the Kodiak Area Transportation System (CATS). Seventeen seniors used the adult day-care program, totaling 4,202 hours of care; Oliver said this is the only adult day-care center in the state operating seven days a week. The center also provided non-Medicaid case management to 24 seniors.

Calendar and community programs: Oliver read the February events calendar, which included a Valentine’s Day lunch for older residents, seminars, watercolor and fitness classes, a movie afternoon, book club meetings, bingo and a weekly foot clinic. He thanked the assembly for continued financial support and said the center would “make the best use we can of every dollar we get to enhance the lives of older Kodiak members.”
