The Lancaster City Historical Commission on Monday recommended that Lancaster City Council approve a certificate of appropriateness for a one-story storage addition at 131 North Plum Street after a presentation from Jesse Pelham of Longview Structures.
The proposed work would add a small framed storage structure and an overhead garage door at the east side of the site facing East Marion Street, continuing an existing roof plane and tying into existing masonry walls on three sides. Pelham said the addition is “a very simple material palette, a primarily corrugated metal structure… painted basically to coordinate and match with the existing infrastructure.”
Commissioners asked whether existing walls or roof lines would be changed; Pelham said the existing wall on the bottom-right elevation would remain “exactly as is” and that the project’s primary changes are the roof extension and the new overhead door. The application materials describe a shed roof, corrugated metal wall siding and the new overhead garage door as shown in the submitted plans.
A commissioner moved that the commission recommend City Council approve the certificate of appropriateness for new construction at 131 North Plum Street, finding the project meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards (Standards 9 and 10). Another member seconded the motion. The commission voted by voice; all present said “aye” and the motion carried.
The vote is a recommendation only; the matter will be forwarded to City Council, which is scheduled to consider it at the January 14 meeting. Staff said the applicant will receive the motion material the following day.
