District legal and finance staff briefed trustees on a proposed $6.5 million general-obligation bond the administration plans to present at the upcoming public meeting. The bond would finance HVAC replacement work at the high school, the installation of a chiller at Kerigosh, and a set of district minor-construction projects.
An attorney and district representatives explained that issuing general-obligation bonds is one option available to the taxing authority to fund capital work without using cash on hand. The attorney said bond sale documents and the district’s bonding capacity will be explained in detail by the financial advisers who will attend the public meeting.
Leila (spelling varies in transcript) outlined anticipated projects that the bond proceeds would cover: HVAC work at the high school; a chiller for Kerigosh timed before the summer cooling season; playground repairs; removal of carpeting in classrooms across the district; a wheelchair lift at Lincoln to provide access to a sixth-grade wing; and improvements to Central, including a planned disability ramp at the rear staircase for emergency access. She also said the district is seeking estimates for pool renovations and that some projects will be issued through an RFP process. Leila invited trustees to attend a vendor meeting on Feb. 27 to review RFP materials.
Administrators said the bond advisers and additional team members will attend the public meeting to provide a detailed overview and answer trustee questions. No formal action to issue the bonds occurred at the work session; trustees were briefed and the bond issuance will be discussed and likely acted on in the public session with the bond team present.
