Bannock County approves event rentals, wildfire grant applications and landfill generator rebuild

The board approved a rental and signature authorization for Mystic Realms Fantasy (the event's organizers said last year's attendance grew from about 2,800 to 3,400). County staff said Mystic Realms rents a portion of the complex and uses nearby soccer fields; the rental fee reported in the meeting was $2,700.
The commissioners next approved a contract with Snake River Doodles for Southeast Idaho Days, an all-ages community festival that county staff said is free to the public; the rental charge for the complex was $600. Scott Crowder, identified in the meeting as event director and business manager, introduced organizers from Mystic Realms and Snake River Doodles.
The board then authorized two applications to the Western States Fire Manager Grant Program: one for the Big Onion fuels-reduction project and one for Lava Ranches fuels-reduction (the applicants described Lava Ranches as the neighborhood south of Lava Hot Springs). Charity Staggs of the Southeast Idaho Council of Governments and West Jones of the Office of Emergency Management asked the board to approve both applications and a grant-writing contract. The meeting record shows the grant-writing fee would be $5,000 per application, for a total of $10,000. Commissioners authorized the chair to sign the grant application materials.
On landfill operations, landfill staff reported completion of a "Freon Building" renovation and discussed maintenance needs for on-site generators. The landfill manager said a replacement air-fuel mixture valve for a generator is available for about $30,000 (the discontinued earlier part had been quoted at $60,000). He told commissioners that a certified rebuild for generator 1 is planned around the equipment's scheduled 36,000-hour rebuild and that the second motor rebuild is slated for "October of 26 and then November of 27" (dates and year expressions were given in that phrasing during the meeting). The board approved the certified rebuild and the identification of funding to pay for it.
Other routine motions proceeded as voice votes recorded in the transcript as "All in favor, say aye. Aye." The meeting recessed after the approvals for a brief break and a scheduled bid opening.
