The Schererville Plan Commission on Feb. 3 unanimously recommended the Town Council approve rezoning for four related parcels along West Lincoln Highway, consolidating split commercial and residential designations and zoning municipal land as institutional for park use.
Town Manager James M. Gorman presented the four items together and said they were largely housekeeping changes prompted by property sales and the town's 2016 purchase of rear parcels for Illiana Park. The requests would convert remaining pockets of R-1 residential zoning to C-3 Highway Commercial for the portions still held by private owners, while the south 900 feet of two parcels the town purchased would be rezoned from R-1 to institutional to match the town-owned parkland.
Each case was voted on individually but discussed together; commissioners asked only clarifying questions and there were no public comments. For each rezoning request the commission made favorable recommendations and will forward the items to the Town Council for final action.
