The Keep Durant Beautiful Committee discussed a proposed Yard of the Month recognition program and agreed in principle to select one yard each month for a reusable sign.
Committee members described a program in which the committee would drive through the city and nominate attractive yards; the committee would photograph the yard, note the address, then vote among members to select the monthly winner. The selected property would receive a sign to display for that month, and the sign would then move to the next month’s winner.
Committee members asked staff to obtain bids for a durable, weather-resistant sign that would include the words “Keep Durant Beautiful” and possibly a Magnolia design element. Volunteers offered to pick up, place and move the signs; members discussed sign materials that would withstand weather and be reusable. One member agreed to solicit bids from local sign shops and return with cost estimates for committee consideration.
During the discussion staff provided the committee with the committee’s current year budget figure (a total year budget of $133,700 was cited during the meeting), and members noted they would need a bid before allocating funds for signs.
The committee asked staff to return with at least two or three sign bids and a recommended design before the committee takes a formal vote to purchase.
