The Wendell Town Board approved two separate fee-waiver requests for events to be held at the Wendell Community Center.
The Wendell Chamber of Commerce requested a fee waiver to host its banquet on January 23. Staff described the requested use window as 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. with the event scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m., an expected attendance of about 40 people, and alcohol to be served. Staff noted alcohol service requires one police officer and one Parks and Recreation staff member; those staffing fees are non-waivable and were estimated at $715. The board voted to grant the remaining waiver requested; the Parks and Recreation Commission had previously recommended approval.
The town also granted a fee waiver to Wakefield Central Baptist Church (organizers of Dancing with the Stars of Wendell and Zebulon) for its February 22 event. Staff said the event is open to the public, expects about 500 attendees, and will require one police officer and two Parks and Recreation staff members for the event; non-waivable fees (staffing, dumpster and cleanup) were estimated at $1,120. The Parks and Recreation Commission recommended fee waiver approval and the board adopted it.
Both motions passed by voice vote. Staff will continue to apply non-waivable staffing and cleanup costs to the event organizers.
