The Eau Claire City Council unanimously approved a three-year memorandum of understanding Tuesday between the city and the Eau Claire Figure Skating Club for continued year-round use of Hobbs Municipal Ice Center.
Mr. Newkirk, representing Hobbs operations, told the council the figure skating club is unique at Hobbs because it operates programs year-round (learn-to-skate, junior club, senior club and a synchronized skating team) and has donated jump-harness equipment to the facility. The new MOU renews terms in place from 2022'2024 and adds a flat annual payment for a set number of hours of facility use plus a 25% discount on ice rental rates for learn-to-skate and junior-club programs to help reduce barriers for younger skaters.
Newkirk said the MOU intends to balance the club's access while aligning ice rental and room-use offsets with other youth ice users; he noted the terms are equivalent to those earlier approved for Eau Claire Youth Hockey. The council approved the MOU by roll call, with no recorded opposition.
