Hartford council: consent items passed, wage-increase ordinance postponed, veto override fails

The council voted to postpone an ordinance (item 5.2) that would provide a 3% wage increase for nonunion and unclassified employees; the item was postponed to the Feb. 24, 2025 meeting by unanimous roll call.
On an action item (item 5.3) regarding a mayoral veto of a previously passed salary resolution (the resolution had been item 6.1 on the Jan. 13, 2025 meeting), the council considered a motion to override the mayoral veto. Corporation Counsel advised that overriding a veto requires seven affirmative votes under council rules. The roll call on the override produced these recorded votes from the transcript: Councilman Bility: yes; Councilman Clark: yes; Councilman Gayle: no; Councilman Hernandez: yes; Councilman Mictum: no; Councilman Rosado: no; Councilwoman Rosetti: no; Councilwoman Surgeon: yes; Councilman Thomas: no. The motion to override the veto failed.
