During the public‑comment portion of the Feb. 10 meeting, an unnamed hotel representative told the CTA board that the hotel's water had been coming out brown intermittently for the past six to eight months, sometimes filling a tub with brown water and affecting guest experience.
The speaker said the hotel had contacted the head of the water department and asked the CTA membership to share information with other properties to identify whether the problem was localized or citywide. The speaker said brown water episodes had occurred today and expressed concern about potential negative guest reviews.
Deputy District Attorney Todd Rees said he had seen several flushing notices over the past few weeks and confirmed that those notices warn residents the water might temporarily turn brown and then clear. Rees recommended contacting the city water department to report sustained problems so the department could investigate beyond routine flushing.
Other board members said they had not heard reports from other properties; staff said they would check with other properties and follow up with the hotel representative.
No formal board action was taken; the matter was entered as public comment and staff agreed to check with other properties and with the water department’s notice distribution.
