Visit Carson City highlights Tahoe Takeover night and V&T season plans, previews rail bikes

David Peterson, executive director of Visit Carson City, told the CTA board Feb. 10 that the Carson City Takeover Night with the Tahoe Night Monsters at the Tahoe Blue Event Center drew heavy interest in promotional items and gave the city a high-visibility presence on the venue’s jumbotron.
Peterson credited Mayor Lori Bagwell’s participation in a ceremonial puck drop and thanked Anthony Bangi and the Tahoe Night Monsters for supporting the event. He said giveaways such as cowbells and microfiber towels were in high demand.
On V&T Railroad operations, Peterson said the V&T commission committed to invest in new content and marketing for the 2025 operating season, including a new website launching in March, paid social and traditional media buys and an integrated newsletter calendar. He said staff plan to reduce diesel train runs and increase steam operations to improve occupancy on lower-demand diesel runs.
Peterson also previewed a near-complete fleet of about 12–13 quad rail bikes with electric-assist motors. He said safety has been the primary design consideration and that testing is required before expanding routes; hypothetically the bikes could operate beyond the river canyon to a halfway house or even “top to bottom,” a roughly 12‑mile run that would require downhill braking tests.
No formal board action was taken on these informational items.
