Committee approves housekeeping bill to change agent licensing and streamline notices

Deloach said the bill’s substantive change is moving from annual license renewal for agents and branch agencies to a two-year license for agents and eliminating the license requirement for branch agencies. He described other changes as technical cleanup: removing anachronistic references to mailing-based advertising and probate-judge certification, updating gendered pronouns and correcting punctuation in job titles.
The sponsor said the measure reduces administrative cost for the department and compliance burden for agents. Committee members asked one clarifying question about the term ‘‘Doge’’ used in colloquial remarks; that did not affect the bill’s substance. No public testimony was offered at the full committee hearing.
The committee voted to pass the bill by voice vote; the measure will advance to later legislative stages.
