The Ambridge Area School District Board of Directors approved a slate of routine business and personnel measures at its Feb. 19 meeting. Actions included contracting for data-administration services, equipment purchases, first readings of two health-related policies, the hiring of several staff members and a resolution authorizing retention of litigation counsel.
Key votes and approvals included:
- PIMS People LLC: The board approved a proposal to retain PIMS People LLC to provide PIMS administrators to the district for accurate data collection and reporting in the PIMS system at $2,083.33 per month for four months beginning March 1, 2025. The item was adopted with a roll call recorded in the meeting.
- Buildings & grounds equipment: The board approved a $5,525 quote from Tri-State Equipment Company to replace the high-school ice machine and approved $6,613.98 to purchase temperature sensors for district freezers from M and P Security Solutions to enable monitored alerts if freezers fail.
- Athletics equipment: The board approved a carbon-filter net system for the middle school volleyball program at $8,033.50 through the CoStars state bidding process.
- Policies (first reading): The board placed two updates on first reading: Policy 210 (use/administration of prescribed medications during school hours) and Policy 210.1 (possession/use of asthma inhalers and epinephrine auto-injectors; permitting self-administration in compliance with state law and board policy). The board moved the items forward for adoption after first reading.
- Resolution to retain litigation counsel: The board adopted Resolution No. 2025-2026-8, authorizing the district to retain litigation counsel to participate in legal proceedings against Eli Lilly and other identified parties for claims related to alleged overpricing of insulin purchased by the district and its health-care plan; the administration and solicitor were authorized to execute associated agreements and pleadings.
- Personnel actions: The board approved multiple personnel items, including the retroactive hire of paraprofessional Omari Robinson effective Feb. 18, 2025 (pending clearances) and the hire of Mark I. (assistant principal, Ambridge Area Middle School) at an Act 93 administrative salary of $92,000 (effective date to be determined and pending clearances). The board also approved coach and advisor appointments listed in the personnel packet.
Votes on the consent and committee packets were recorded by roll call for each committee. Where discussion was recorded, board members asked clarifying questions about size, warranty, insurance and monitoring for equipment purchases and about contract term and monthly cost for the PIMS service. All items listed above were approved as presented.
