Wayzata school board approves attendance-area changes for 2025–26 to ease overcrowding

The Wayzata Public Schools board on Wednesday approved a districtwide realignment of elementary and middle school attendance areas intended to reduce overcrowding and improve transportation efficiency, voting 4–2 to adopt the administration's "Concept 9" plan effective for the 2025'26 school year.

The plan, presented by Superintendent Dr. Anderson and the district's finance and operations team with consultant TeamWorks, redraws multiple neighborhood assignments across the district. The administration told the board the package would reduce projected student relocations from earlier models and position the district to manage expected growth over the next three to five years.

District leaders said the plan would leave about 8 percent of elementary students subject to reassignment under Concept 9 and that the district packet lists 501 kindergarten-through-fifth-grade students as impacted by the changes. The board and administration also said 54 current fourth graders are among those directly affected and discussed limited exceptions and transfer protocols for some middle school students.
