The City of Stockton Planning Commission on Feb. 13 elected Commissioner John Sanguinetti as chair and Commissioner Mutzenberg as vice chair for the coming 12‑month term.
Vice Chair Bocarie (who referred to himself as “Gurney” to colleagues) moved to nominate Commissioner John Sanguinetti for chair; the nomination was seconded and passed unanimously, 6‑0. Commissioner Mutzenberg was nominated and elected vice chair by unanimous 6‑0 vote. Commissioners observed that the procedural rules call for annual elections in February and that a chair may not serve two consecutive terms. Staff reminded commissioners that the Planning Commission Academy and other training opportunities are available and that staff is available to support newer members.
Members used the nominations and post‑election remarks to discuss mentorship and capacity‑building for new commissioners. Several commissioners and staff emphasized available training (including a March 3 academy session that was full) and staff availability for questions about agendas, staff reports and procedural rules. Newly elected Chair Sanguinetti thanked colleagues and said he looked forward to working with the commission; newly elected Vice Chair Mutzenberg commented on priorities including walkability and development connectivity.
The commission also discussed the Brown Act and upcoming training; staff said the city will schedule additional training opportunities. No other elections or formal policy actions were taken during the same agenda item.
