County approves $293,653.08 contract for airport perimeter fence phase 2 using state grant funds

Montgomery County commissioners voted to award a construction contract and approve a grant project ordinance for phase 2 of the airport perimeter fence project.
County Manager Frank Mace told commissioners the project will extend fencing along the south side of the airport runway and continue along the western side; it includes an 8-foot chain-link fence and mowing strips to assist maintenance and reduce vegetation impacts on the fence line. Bids were received and the low bidder was Countrywood Landscaping for $293,653.08, according to the manager’s presentation.
Mace said the project is fully funded by state funds and is therefore not charged to county funds. Because the low bid was below the amount requested from North Carolina, staff recommended maximizing the amount of fencing included in the contract to take advantage of favorable pricing where feasible; some added fencing may not connect directly to existing fence due to access constraints.
Commissioner Hurley moved to award the tentative construction contract and approve the grant project ordinance; Commissioner Jeffrey Pope seconded. The board voted in favor.
County staff will proceed with contract finalization and construction scheduling under the approved grant project ordinance.
