The request to reopen the consent agenda item came after a commissioner asked the board to consider whether the county could obtain payment for vehicles before donating them. Commissioner Teter said, “I'd like to see if we could ... get something out of those cars,” noting taxpayer expense on repairs and the vehicles’ remaining mileage.
County Manager Frank Mace explained the item on the agenda was a resolution authorizing the manager to donate the surplus vehicles to Montgomery County Schools and offered to answer questions about alternatives or procedures. Commissioners discussed the value of the vehicles and whether the county should attempt to obtain funds rather than donate outright. Commissioner Taylor echoed concerns about recovering monies for taxpayers.
A motion to reconsider the consent-agenda donation was made and seconded; the board voted to carry the motion and then approved the donation as presented.
The county clerk will proceed with executing the donation under the authority of the adopted resolution. The resolution specifies the county manager may complete the donation; the county did not describe any sale process or payment to the county as part of the approved action.
