Brad Mabe was interviewed and appointed to the Valley County Planning and Zoning Commission during the Dec. 16 meeting.
The board questioned Mabe about his experience, willingness to learn county ordinances and how he would handle conflicts of interest. Mabe said he moved to the area in 2019, has corporate committee experience, and is willing to study ordinances and the compatibility scoring used by the commission. "I am willing to learn these things, learn the ordinances... and I'm very willing to be open minded and listen," he said.
Commissioners emphasized the importance of following ordinances, avoiding ex parte contacts while an application is pending, and recusing oneself when personally affected. Commissioners also encouraged the appointee to use Planning & Zoning staff as a resource.
A motion to appoint Mabe to a three-year term carried by voice vote; the appointment will expire Dec. 31, 2027. Mabe said he could serve either a two- or three-year term and committed to the position.
The board welcomed Mabe and asked him to be prepared for substantial packet material and committee work; staff will provide orientation and procedural materials.
No contested vote was recorded; the appointment was approved unanimously by the commissioners in attendance.
