Commission awards seven 'big game' lottery permits to conservation groups; draw raised conservation funds in prior years

The commission made seven blind draws. Commissioners announced the winning applicants and KDWP staff recorded the results: 78 (Ducks Unlimited, Kansas chapter); 19 (Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Kansas chapter); 87 (Kansas Bow Hunters Association); 69 (Ducks Unlimited, Kansas University chapter); 97 (Pheasants Forever, Southwest Kansas chapter); 49 (Pheasants Forever, Osborne County); 33 (NWTF Salty Spurs chapter, Hutchinson).
Deputy Secretary described distribution rules: organizations may sell or raffle the permits; after sale proceeds are collected KDWP receives 85% of funds (after costs) and the organization retains 15%; organizations submit a conservation project proposal for department review and KDWP releases the funds after approval. The deputy secretary and staff noted recent years' totals and averages, including a 2024 average permit sale of $52,571 and total funds raised in prior years of several hundred thousand dollars.
No commission vote beyond the draw was required; the drawing itself determined awardees. The department will work with each organization on project proposals and paperwork required to transfer funds after permits are sold.
