The Pocatello City Council approved a resolution renaming Bonneville Community Park to Pierce Park, honoring the Pierce family for their contributions to the community.
Council member Mangum moved to adopt the resolution after Council member Loric and others indicated support; a family representative addressed the council in favor. "My name is Kim Pierce. I'm Idaho and John Pierce's son. My mother sends her regards. She's 98 now," Kim Pierce said, describing his parents' decades of community involvement and saying the family took pride in the park serving as a welcoming place for children and families. "My dad would be really, really happy and my mom would be very happy because they believed in that," he said.
Council members praised the family's service. The council then approved the resolution by roll call; the mayor and council asked that the family be extended the council's appreciation.
The resolution renames Bonneville Community Park effective immediately to Pierce Park and was adopted at the Jan. 16 meeting.
