Superintendent Taylor outlined a new Community Advisory and Advocacy Alliance intended to provide the superintendent direct feedback from community stakeholders and to serve as district liaisons for outreach and advocacy.
Doctor Taylor and staff said organizers sent roughly 141 invitations, received about 87 open-call responses, and selected 56 participants to ensure districtwide and sector representation across advocacy groups, cultural organizations, businesses, universities and arts and enrichment partners. The alliance will offer orientation and regular virtual sessions (initial orientation was held in November with a virtual follow-up in December) and will convene every other month with optional special sessions, site visits and student panels.
Doctor Sturtevant said the sessions mix advisory and advocacy aims: participants will receive data and strategy briefings so they can advocate and will provide feedback on district priorities and outreach. Staff described breakout sessions from the orientation on partnership definitions, marketing the district partner map and planning for a family-and-community-engagement summit. The alliance’s next convenings will dive deeper into strategic-plan priority areas and potentially help publicize volunteer steps and partnership procedures.
Board members asked whether more organizations could be added; district staff said they will maintain a waiting list and a newsletter to communicate opportunities and consider adding partners as needed. The alliance is also expected to help promote upcoming district events such as a spring engagement summit, with a timeframe under discussion.
