Wylie Library staff said the library received the 2024 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries award for the fifth consecutive year and asked board members to attend a city council proclamation on April 22.
The recognition places Wylie among 102 public libraries in the state, staff said, putting the library in roughly the top 19% of public libraries statewide. Library staff asked advisory board members who are available to attend the April 22 Wylie City Council meeting at 6 p.m. to accept the proclamation and a certificate that will be provided by Congressman Keith Self's office.
Library staff told the board the council presentation should be brief, about 20 to 30 minutes, and will occur near the start of the meeting. Staff said the council originally proposed an earlier date during National Library Week but moved the recognition to April 22 so it would not conflict with the Wiley Way Students event. Staff encouraged board members to introduce themselves and participate in the recognition.
Board members responded with congratulations and appreciation for staff and volunteers who contributed to the library’s programming and services that staff said underlie the award.
The item was reported during the work session portion of the board's regular meeting on Feb. 24; no formal board action beyond scheduling attendance at the council proclamation was recorded.
