Council approves small parcel conveyance for EMS site, retains stormwater easement on separate lot; several ordinances advanced or deferred

Sumter County Council approved on third reading an ordinance that transfers a small portion of county-owned land—about 1,286 square feet (0.03 acres)—for $15,200 to accommodate a roadway modification at an intersection next to what staff described as the county's new EMS facility.

A staff presenter showed an overhead image of the parcel and said the yellow-highlighted area represents the portion to be taken to allow the transportation agency to make a larger turnaround. The presenter said the parcel sale “doesn’t really impact the operation of that building being an EMS center.” On the record the seller/buyer and additional paperwork were summarized; the third reading motion was approved on voice vote with members saying “aye.”

Separately, the council advanced second reading on an item described as conveyance of a 1.19-acre tract for $5,950 while retaining a county stormwater easement. Staff said the county originally acquired the parcel to maintain drainage for adjoining property; the prospective buyer plans to develop the lot, and the county will keep the stormwater easement so it can maintain conveyance if needed. A public hearing will be held prior to third reading, staff said.

The council also considered Project White Pine Oaks (ordinance 24-1014) and voted to defer the item; the transcript shows a motion to defer and a second, with the item taken off the third-reading calendar.

Council members also ratified the 2025 standing committee slate and added Councilwoman Tasha Garden Green to the committee list; the ratification was approved on the record with members saying “aye.”
