Mahtomedi board approves five‑year lease for Passages transition program

The Mahtomedi Public School District board on Dec. 16 voted to approve a five-year lease for the Passages transition program, agreeing the new location offers more usable space and programmatic advantages.
Board members discussed that the program’s current space is constrained; the new location will allow Passages staff to operate program elements such as a school store without having to use temporary storage bins. District staff told the board they negotiated a smaller-than-available footprint in the building, which reduces the rent, and that the lease includes the district’s right to veto certain incoming tenants in the same facility.
Director Dohman moved to approve the Passages lease agreement; Director Donna seconded. Board members expressed support for the move and said staff who work with the program had indicated enthusiasm about the new location. The motion carried by voice vote with no recorded dissents.
The lease term approved by the board is five years. District staff said they view the term as appropriate while the district evaluates other longer-term space plans. No dollar amount for the rent was disclosed in the board discussion recorded in the meeting.
