Chester-Upland board elects Amanda Johnson as president, Beverly Harris as vice president

Amanda Johnson was elected president of the Chester-Upland School District Board of Directors on a 5-4 roll-call vote at the board's December reorganization meeting. Director Beverly Harris was elected vice president on a 6-3 roll-call vote.
The board's outgoing president read a statement to the district and board, saying she was grateful for the opportunity to serve and that "after much thought, I have decided not to seek reelection for school board president." In her remarks she thanked fellow board members and district leaders, naming "receiver Nafeez Niffel, Superintendent Dr. Latrice Mumey, as well as our former superintendent Dr. Craig Parkinson."
Nominations for president included Director Tazalyn Morales and Director Amanda Johnson. The first nomination for president was moved and seconded; the board conducted roll-call votes on the nominees. The presiding officer announced that Amanda Johnson received the majority and was chosen president.
For vice president, Director Beverly Harris was nominated and seconded; the board closed nominations and elected Harris by roll-call vote. A board member noted that the reorganization that evening addressed only president and vice president positions; secretary and treasurer appointments were deferred.
The board then concluded the reorganization portion of the meeting and moved to adjourn.
