Edgefield County council gives first reading to five-year comprehensive plan update

Edgefield County Council gave unanimous first reading to Ordinance 24,250,004 — a five-year update to the county comprehensive plan — at its Dec. 3 meeting, a measure staff said is required by the South Carolina Planning and Enabling Act.

The administrator told council the update had been discussed publicly for several months and that the changes reflected those shown in prior public presentations and a recent public comment period. “This 5 year update of the comprehensive plan is required by the South Carolina Planning and Enabling Act,” the administrator said.

Motion and vote: The motion to give first reading was made by Mr. Talbert and seconded by Ms. Ireland; the council voted unanimously to approve first reading. Staff indicated there have been no substantive changes since the public presentation and public comment period the prior month.

What happens next: The ordinance received a formal first reading; council will consider second reading and any additional action at a subsequent meeting consistent with the county’s ordinance-adoption procedures and state law.
