Apprenticeship participation nears 15% goal; preliminary rooftop solar plan seen as revenue-generating and educational

The committee received two project-related updates: a monthly apprenticeship participation report from Building Futures and a preliminary rooftop solar feasibility analysis for the new high school.
Mister Dersick, staff member, presented the Building Futures monthly report and said the project-to-date achieved percentage was 14.92 percent, up from 12 percent the previous month, with a project goal of 15 percent. “The important number is highlighted in the orange box in the upper right. It's titled project to date achieved. And you raised, at 14.92%. Our goal for the project is 15,” Dersick said.
Dersick said additional front- and back-end details by trade and contractor are included in the monthly report and that hours worked per trade are being tracked with contractors.
On renewable energy, Dersick said the district and city had partnered with a renewable-energy consultant to evaluate rooftop solar at the new high school and that the consultant’s preliminary two-page analysis suggested the rooftop system could be installed and produce electricity that would be sold back into the grid, producing payments to the district. Dersick said the consultant was asked to expand the analysis to include an educational component so students could access live input/output data for engineering and policy learning.
The committee asked staff to refine the consultant document and circulate a more robust analysis to the group before the March meeting. No formal action was taken on either item; both were presented for information and follow-up.
