Board recognizes student volunteers from district high schools; schools report activities and honors

The Rapid City Area School District 51-4 Board recognized student volunteers at its Jan. 7 meeting, naming student leaders from multiple high schools who assist district programs and community efforts.
Recognized students included Brody Gill of Rapid City Alternative Academy, who the presenter said manages the RCAS Feeding South Dakota food pantry and performs duties including temperature checks, stocking, record-keeping and volunteer training; Haley Cunningham of Stevens High School, who organized and led a peer-tutoring effort and coordinated a book drive with Horace Mann Elementary; and Amelia Schapauer of Central High School, who the presenter said logged more than 319 hours of community service over two and a half years and led numerous campus and community projects.
Student representatives gave short reports on recent and upcoming activities. Central’s student representative noted holiday community service, pep-band performances and upcoming basketball and Science Bowl events. Stevens’ student representative listed several sporting events, named athletic and performer recognitions, and noted an art showcase featuring two advanced art pieces chosen for school display.
Rapid City Alternative Academy’s report highlighted five students named “Students of Distinction” by the Rushmore Rotary Club and described the school’s clothing closet, run monthly by the Rapid City High School class of 1967, which has provided over 200 clothing items this school year and averages four to five visits per week.
School reports and the student-recognition presentations were part of the meeting’s agenda item labeled "assuring the success" of student activities and services.
