The Waukesha City Board of Public Works on Jan. 9 approved Contract Change Order No. 1 with Pieper Electric for Buckner Park ball-diamond lighting upgrades and approved related payments, including a final payment tied to a separate Crane Park project.
City staff explained the change order includes one addition and several quantity adjustments. The city requested installation of a sub-feeder breaker between the new electric service and the existing service; Pieper Electric installed that breaker for $8,983. City staff said We Energies would have charged approximately $15,000 for the same work, and using Pieper saved roughly $6,000. After accounting for other bid item quantity underruns, staff said the total change order amount is $4,741.88.
Board member Eric Payne (recorded in the transcript as moving the change order) and a board member seconded the motion; the board recorded the motion as passing by recorded ayes. Staff thanked Jeff Hunt for coordinating with the electricians to secure the favorable pricing.
Separately, the board approved a motion to authorize payments, which staff said included the final payment for a Crane Park project related to the change order items. The meeting record did not state the dollar amount of the final payment for Crane Park in the discussion; staff said the change order was the reason for the payment appearing after the change-order item on the agenda.
No disputed contractor claims or withheld work items were raised during the meeting. The board did not record additional conditions on the change order beyond the dollar adjustments presented by staff.
