Grand Island workshop fails to adopt updated nonunion salary schedule

A presenter explained that Supervisor Martin had requested adoption of an attached updated nonunion salary schedule discussed at an earlier February workshop. The presenter said the schedule included a budgeted increase for the supervisor secretary A position to grade 7 and a temporary increase for the supervisor secretary B/bookkeeper to grade 6.5 while payroll accounting issues are being resolved. The presenter described the B position increase as a temporary measure that would revert to part-time status and a lower pay grade when vacated.
A motion to approve the updated schedule was made and seconded for discussion. Discussion included concerns about whether responsibilities that had been shifted away from clerks had reduced the workload that initially motivated prior raises. After discussion, the vote was recorded with two “Aye” votes and one “Nay,” and the motion failed.
Participants noted the item will be returned to a future agenda; the group discussed scheduling the next regular meeting for March 3 and a separate follow-up on water and wastewater leadership issues.
