Votes at a glance: Josephine County board approves airport hangars, surplus vehicle sales, mineral permit pause and other administrative items

The Josephine County Board of Commissioners recorded unanimous votes on a series of administrative measures at its Feb. 19, 2025, weekly business session. Most items passed on 3-0 roll-call votes.

Key outcomes

- Airport hangars contract: The board approved a $647,054.29 construction contract with JB Steel LLC to build four new county-owned hangars at Grants Pass Airport. - Sheriff’s sale confirmation and proceeds distribution: The board rescinded and replaced a prior order (2024-074) and confirmed the sheriff’s sale of Nov. 14, 2024. Legal counsel Wally Hicks said total proceeds received were about $807,010 and described distributions that include the county’s property management program, broker fees and allocations to surplus tax, parks reserve and forestry reserve. The order passed 3-0.

- Pause on mineral exploration applications: The board approved a one-year suspension on accepting and processing mineral exploration permits, mining leases and mining permits while staff consider revisions to Josephine County Code Chapter 5.15. The suspension includes a carved-out exception to be processed separately; the suspension remains in effect for one year unless revoked or extended. Motion carried 3-0.

- Voluntary resignation program: The board adopted Board Order 2025-013 establishing a voluntary resignation program (see separate article). Motion carried 3-0.

- Meeting schedule and committee appointments: The board approved canceling the weekly business session the week of Feb. 24–28, 2025 (no quorum expected) and approved resolutions resetting appointments and terms for the county budget committee (Resolution 2025-005) and the Illinois Valley Airports Advisory Committee (Resolution 2025-007). Both passed 3-0.

- Consent calendar and other administrative items: The board approved draft minutes and the consent calendar, authorized a letter of support to the YMCA for a Youth Enrichment Center property acquisition (no county financial commitment), and authorized the chair to sign a forestry director’s letter regarding the Cedar Flat management project to BLM. All motions passed 3-0.
