The Schererville Town Board of Safety on Feb. 6 voted to approve meeting minutes from Jan. 9 and a special‑meeting minutes packet from Jan. 30 and unanimously approved a time promotion for one firefighter.
The board approved the Jan. 9, 2025, Board of Safety meeting minutes by voice vote with all present members saying "aye." The board also approved the minutes from the Fire Department merit‑board special meeting held Jan. 30, 2025; the chair announced both motions passed unanimously.
Fire Chief Robert Patterson requested approval of a time promotion for firefighter Jason Noto from third‑class to second‑class firefighter EMT, citing Noto's completion of a paramedic program and that he was awaiting his national registry exam. The board moved and seconded the promotion and approved it by voice vote; the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting also included a brief correspondence item — a thank‑you letter from a family the department had assisted — and an announcement that the department's officer of the year, civilian of the year and detective awards would be presented at the March meeting. No formal votes were recorded on awards or the correspondence.
The board adjourned after completing the agenda.
