Pleasant Grove police praise citizen who helped in Macy's robbery; departments report staffing changes

Pleasant Grove Police Chief Brown updated the City Council Dec. 3 on a recent robbery at the Macy's grocery store and staffing changes in the police department.
Brown said a man presented a note to customer service demanding money; the suspect fled with a small amount of cash. A business owner whose dumpster area the suspect tried to use confronted the man, who claimed he was a cleaner, and that citizen's intervention helped officers locate and arrest the suspect. Brown said the city plans to recognize the citizen at an upcoming council meeting.
The police chief also said the department is "busy" and is seeking to fill two full-time officer slots after departures; he said part-time staff and reserves are helping cover shifts. Brown said a retiree, Rick Henderson, plans to return to fulltime work in March.
Fire Department leadership reported a staffing addition and an off-duty incident in which Lieutenant Curtis Hutchinson and an on-site nurse began CPR on an individual at an American Fork fitness center; Hutchinson and the nurse helped save the person while off duty, and American Fork officials reportedly praised the response.
Council members acknowledged the departments' work and offered thanks for the citizen who assisted in the Macy's robbery response. No formal council actions were taken during the work session related to public-safety staffing or recognitions.
