Board approves Skyline Engineering agreement and authorizes bid advertisement for high school heater and air-handler projects

The Spearfish School District 40-2 School Board approved an agreement with Skyline Engineering LLC and approved advertising for bids on two high school mechanical projects during its Jan. 13 meeting.

The board approved the contract for engineering services with Skyline Engineering LLC for the Spearfish High School rooftop air-handler replacement project. District staff explained several remaining rooftop air handlers at the high school require replacement; the rooftop air-handler work will be included as an alternate in the advertising for the domestic hot water heater replacement project. Staff said making the air-handler work an alternate allows the district to proceed with the primary hot-water project while awarding the air-handler work only if budget permits.

The board also approved advertising for bids for the high school domestic hot water heater replacement and the rooftop air-handler replacement (the latter listed as an alternate). Staff told the board that specifications and plans were approximately half complete at the time of the meeting and targeted an advertisement date around Feb. 1 if engineer specifications are completed; they cautioned contractor scheduling could influence the timeline.

Board members moved and seconded approval of the Skyline Engineering agreement and the bid advertisement; the motions passed by voice vote. The board president noted that if the specifications are ready before the February meeting the district will advertise promptly; if not, the advertisement may occur after the next meeting. No specific contract award was made that night beyond approving the engineering agreement and the authority to advertise.

The board will review bids and consider awarding construction contracts in a future meeting once bids are received and evaluated.
